  1. Versions – a comparison of the two versions of Smart Quotes

  4. Previous versions of Smart Quotes are freeware, and may still be available
  5. somewhere, but have far less intelligent quote handling – version 1.25, for
  6. instance, decides which double quote to insert by counting the number of
  7. quotes you’ve typed. Also, you can’t drag the icon around with Shift-Ctrl.

  9. The registered version has much longer expands than the freeware version –
  10. seven characters long rather than two. This in practice allows you many more
  11. possibilities – more symbols, punctuation checking and the like.

  13. Finally, the registered version doesn’t nag you all the time ;-).
